Headway fashion show David Jones

Headway by David Jones – Spring Racing Fashion trends 2018

It’s only around the corner now! The Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival is about to set the city abuzz. To give us some inspiration, Melbourne Racing Club and David Jones collaborated to bring us a glimpse at some gorgeous spring fashion and millinery which is available now. This exclusive event, which was focused on racing fashion, was held for Melbourne Racing Club members and guests The event had excited ladies whipping out their credit cards to secure their racing outfits.

Located just outside the David Jones store at Chadstone, the event saw champagne flowing and food constantly streaming out while we enjoyed the fashion show. Brodie Holland played hostess and a string quartet played as the models sashayed the catwalk. Hemlines are quite high this season with colours ranging from bold and bright to pastels. Don’t worry, the classic dresses with modest hemlines are also available. Puff sleeves are still fashionably in, as well as feminine florals and jumpsuits.

One of my favourite looks of this season is the pastel blue power suit. Although one was not on show that night, pastel blue looks like it’s going to sweep over the racecourse this season. My Zara suit is waiting patiently in my wardrobe to make it’s debut during the Melbourne Cup Carnival. My top pick of pastel blue suits would be from Rebecca Valance. Unfortunately the price tag is slightly on the higher side.

A handful of select milliners were invited to showcase their designs in little market stalls set up around the catwalk. Boaters are aplenty for this season, as well as dainty headbands for those who like to join in on the fun without the fuss. Guests were able to try on the different styles of millinery and purchase them on the night. Although the millinery on show was kept low-key, fashion forecasters are predicting that large hats will dominate again this year. Even I have invested in a over-sized boater which I’m saving for summer.

Enjoy the pics. Hope this gets you as excited as I am about the Spring Racing Carnival which is to  dawn upon us! It all starts with the Melbourne Racing Club’s Caulfield Guineas and Caulfield Cup which commences mid-October.
