It’s been a long time since I watched a movie at an Openair Cinema in Melbourne! With a setting like the Saint Kilda Seabaths, it’s a truely wonderful thing to do with your partner, friends, family or even dogs! Unfortunately the movie session has to run at night (when it gets dark) so it’s really not a kid friendly lineup of movies (but there is ELF showing on the 12th of December 2017!).
We were treated to a screening of Thor Ragnarok on opening night, and it’s definitely a movie to see this summer. Arriving early meant that we could enjoy some pizza and drinks and be entertained by the live band which played onstage. Not sure if it was just a really funny movie or if the Apero Spritz put me in a more giggly mood than usual. Regardless, it was an enjoyable viewing experience.

One of the other guests brought along her French Bulldog. Yes, the American Express Openair Cinema is dog friendly so treat your pooch to a night out as well!
There’s comfy loungers or a bring-your-own blanket and seats option. Blankets are available for hire or take your own! The Ladro food truck serves wonderful wood-fired pizzas, which washes down well with beverages from a dedicated cocktail bar.
If you’re an American Express Card member, you are able to purchase a VIP cinema experience which gives you access to the American Express Invites Lounge. You can also get 15% off selected tickets. Check out the website for full details.
