For me, the Caulfield Cup has always been an relaxed and enjoyable experience. It’s the start of the craziness to follow. Caulfield racecourse is a fairly small and easy place to navigate around, so wearing high heels there is not such an excruciating experience.
The fashion was gorgeous as usual, with the final of the Stylish ladies under 40’s Chadstone Fashions on the Field being held that day. Viviana Parish was the victor, taking home a stack of goodies which included a cruise. She wore a lovely white Cue dress with an oversized bow, accessorised with a hat made by her milliner mother.
There was a lot of white this season and the peplum lives on! Classic styling is always a winner in the fashion stakes with the judges still favouring lower hemlines. It must have been extremely hard to pick the winner!
Taking time out to rest my poor feet, I suddenly wondered where everyone in the Club Pegasus had gone to. The major race was on. Jockey Nick Hall rode the number seven horse, Fawkner (own by Lloyd Williams), first past the finishing post. The Caulfield Cup race prize was a cool 2.5 million dollars.
The public area were well behaved and treated to a free concert from rock band – The Living End. We made an early exit to avoid the stumbling mass that would be leaving after the concert.
