It’s been at least seven years since I ventured down to the Mornington Cup. It’s a mid-week race day, which makes it a little hard to get to – some of us have to work! As I do work for myself I freed up the afternoon so that we could venture down to have a look – especially at the fashions on the field! Of all the country race meets, the Mornington Cup was always a favourite of mine. It was also an excuse for me to frock up and wear a hat! The weather was just perfect and there was a good amount of people there who could get some time off work.
The usual suspects were down there, with only a couple of fashionistas wearing an outfit which I had already seen previously. The competition was tough for a country race meeting. The trend was quite conservative seeing the fitted dress and sleek lines dominating. With Louise MacDonald and Brett Morely (both are milliners) in the judging panel, you knew that the winners would have to be wearing exceptional hats. The winners of both sections (stylish ladies over 40’s and under 40’s) wore some wonderful headwear! The men scrubbed up well too for their competition.
My thirst for some colour and style was satisfied. Again, I didn’t see a horse run. Thank goodness Andreas was down there to cover that side of things!
