The Melbourne Cup 2017 Launch
It’s that time of year again! The Melbourne Cup Carnival 2017 is upon us and what better way to welcome it than to open up The Park with plenty of food, fashion and fun. Media, fashionistas, designers, celebrities, horse trainers and a winning jockey were present for the festivities.
The Park
The Park is a stunning area for the general public to enjoy. It’s where you’ll find the best dressed during the Melbourne Cup Carnival and some fun activities to amuse yourselves with. There’s everything you’ll need for the day, including a TAB betting area. You can even have a go at some croquet. The Pony Bar is a luxurious area where you can find some shelter from the elements and enjoy some refreshing beverages. There’s plenty of spots for lovely photos there as well!
Food and Beverages at the Races
There was way too much good food to sample, including award winning pizza from 400 Gradi. The duck salas and pork belly from Rice Paper Scissors were to die for! Crispy chicken burgers were a big hit. Oh, and those meat filled doughnuts were something out of this world! Plenty of wine and cocktails were on offer but my head craved the Lavazza coffee more than anything on that day.
Melbourne Cup 2017 Contenders – The horses
Jockey of the Caulfield Cup winner (Boom Time) spoke at the launch. Will be interesting to see if Boom Time be up to the job of collecting the Melbourne Cup as well or if Andreas Wöhler (trainer of past winner, Protectionist) produce another winner this year. We’ve been very lucky with picking winners over the last few years (remember that we tipped Protectionist to you all the year it won!). We’re hoping to pick another this year! Australia’s favourite horse trainer, Gai Waterhouse, was also there to address the attendees.
Turn of Weather
The hail and storm which was predicted for the morning definitely brought down the gathering numbers from last year. Umbrellas and lovely clear rain ponchos were handed out in case of a downpour, but it never came. It wasn’t a warm day but bearable enough for the fashionistas to bare their shoulders in lovely summer dresses. Let’s hope the weather is kind to us during the Melbourne Cup Carnival week!
Fashions on The Field 2017 – What’s on!
The Fashions on the Field pavilion has just stepped up a notch, with decor in soft peach and grey. It’s a lot more intimate this year, but I’m guessing that there’s going to be quite a tight squeeze with limited seating. Make sure you’re there early to secure a seat! The catwalk is much closer and lower to the viewers than in previous years and the upstairs viewing area is no longer available. Upstairs, you’ll find the Cosmopolitan Activation room, where you’ll be able to get your makeup re-touched and have a lovely photo taken at their stand which is surrounded by gorgeous flowers!
If you love fashion, do enter the Fashions on The Field competition! That gorgeous red Lexus is going to be prized to the best dressed lady on Oaks Day! Think colour, floral crowns, halos and the turban for winning styles this year!
We’re definitely excited about the Melbourne Cup 2017 Carnival and will be spending a bit of time up at The Park. See you out there!
