We headed off to Caulfield Racecourse for the first race day of the Caulfield Cup Carnival last Saturday. I’ll have to admit that I wasn’t expecting too much, as I had attended it the previous year and the turnout wasn’t huge. This year was a nice surprise. They have introduced the first heat of the Stylish Ladies (over 40yrs) and the first heat of the Men’s competition as well! And how entertaining were those stylish men! They had all the ladies in a buzz, including the judges as you can see in the photos.
If this was just a taste of things to come, we’re in for a fashion feast! The outfits were impressive, with ladies lashing out on new spring dresses and millinery. There were a few creative types amongst them who had created their own outfits, including the lovely Crystal Kimber who was chosen as one of the finalists. Crystal wore an ensemble which her mum had put together. Elis wore an elegant red dress and a dior-style hat, accessorised with a horse shaped clutch. Kelli wore a classic white outfit in lace, with shoes perfectly matching, and a modern take on the pillbox hat. Three very deserving winners who will be tough to top.
The Stylish Ladies over 40 saw fashions on the field regular, Jacqueline Russo as one of the three who made it to the finals. She chose a simple, yet stunning orange mini dress and a divine headpiece by Louise Macdonald. The other two winners were dressed in classic 1960’s style dresses.
There was one standout, dapper looking gentleman who wore lilac and won the judges hearts with his flirtatious behaviour. His attention to detail was on the dot, from his top hat down to the spyglass which he pulled out of his walking stick! I’ve got my bet on this gentleman to take home the first prize. It was so nice to see the men putting so much effort into the Fashions On The Field competition. I’m still hoping to see some men in anything floral!
2013 Caulfield Cup Carnival Style Ambassador – Erika Heynatz
The judges were headed by the gorgeous Erika Heynatz – an Australian model, actress, singer and television personality. This year, Caulfield did not run their “Face Of Caulfield” campaign. Instead, they have chosen Erika as their 2013 Caulfield Cup Carnival Style Ambassador. Erika will be their spokeswoman for everything style related. She will also be judging the Fashions On The Field competition throughout the Caulfield Carnival.
We hope you enjoy our coverage of the Caulfield Carnival Preview Day. Watch this space for the other two major days which we will be attending.
