What glorious weather we’re having right now! Let’s hope it sticks around for the week of racing fun and fashion which is just about to hit us! Yesterday was the Melbourne Cup Carnival Launch and we were there to enjoy The Park and all that it has on offer for all of you who are heading out there.
The Park @Melbourne Spring Carnival 2019
The Park precinct is really the place to be for those who want a vibrant, stylish area to hang out it during the Melbourne Cup Carnival. There’s the Pony Bar which got another facelift this year. It resembles a vintage diner where waiting staff served you while on roller skates! The Myer Fashions On The Field stage is close by for all of the fashion action and there are a few food trucks to help keep your energy levels up for the day.
The Pinchys lobster sliders are a to die for and a must for seafood lovers! There’s pizza, burgers, fried chicken and popcorn chicken from Duke’s Pizza, The Bearded Jaffle, Slider Diner, Son In Law, Lomah and Agathé Pâtisserie. Wash down the food with your choice of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages on offer from the Seppelt Prosecco Bar, Furphy Beer Garden, Lillet Spritz Bar, LION’s Quincy and the VRC’s own Pony Bar.
Lots of pink, florals and pastels at the 2019 Melbourne Cup Carnival
The theme for The Park this year is pastels and florals. There’s a lot of pink! What we loved most about the new Park precinct are the photo booth set-ups. There are a few gorgeous booths which are so much fun to have a photo taken in! There’s one with giant lollipops, a flower-filled room and an upside-down room one which we had fun with. There were a few more scattered around The Park so make sure you get to them all!
The Pony Bar itself is also like one huge photo booth with a vintage phone in one corner. The carousel is also a photo spot and you just have to grab one of the huge anime fairy floss characters for your Instagram and Snapchat pics!
FOTF Fashions on the Field – The 2019 trend
The Myer FOTF stage is pretty much the same set-up as the previous year. It’s not the best set-up for a large crowd viewing of the FOTF comp but it’s very pretty as usual. If you’re still to finalise your outfits for the FOTF competition, think retro prints and florals! I had the pleasure of running into Crystal Kimber, the Myer FOTF ambassador, and got her insight on what is going to impress her this year!
Just looking at all the winners from other states, I’m sure we can guess what all the judges will be on the look-out for. It seems that retro style, huge sleeves in pretty prints are making a statement this year. Who will have that stand-out style that will catch the judges attention to take home the winners sash? It’s not long until we find out!
Entertainment and fun
The 1919 Melbourne Cup itself being delivered to the stage by Three-time Lexus Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy (on a horse) and his family. Melbourne Cup Carnival ambassador Tegan Martin and Lexus ambassador Corey Brown delivered the 2019 Lexus Melbourne Cup trophy to the stage in a striking yellow Lexus LC 500. It’s marking the end of the Cup’s 39-destination tour that saw it traverse Australia, United Kingdom, Japan and beyond. Lindy Klim and her gorgeous 13yr old daughter (Stella) had photographers snapping away in the Pony Bar. Other models were sashaying around The Park precinct in beautiful spring fashion and ballerinas danced their way around amongst the guests.
This event never fails to get us excited about the week which lays ahead. We’ll be there with bells on.
The 2019 Melbourne Cup Carnival begins on Saturday 2nd November with AAMI Victoria Derby Day, and continues with Lexus Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday 5th November, Kennedy Oaks Day on Thursday 7th November and concludes with Seppelt Wines Stakes Day on Saturday 9th November.
