Best New Year Resolutions 2019

Goodbye 2018 – Hello 2019 (New year resolutions)

This NYE we’re sitting on our couch, choosing not to have one drink. I started the day off with my first 10km run I’ve done in a while and decided that I’d continue with the health kick. There’s been a lot of indulgence over the last few weeks so we really didn’t need NYE to be a big one. The little one is in bed and the big one is at a three day festival (Falls Festival in Lorne) where there is no phone service so I can’t reach her. Yes, I’m a little concerned. She’s back tomorrow so I can relax again. My other half is looking rather tired as well, so we sit here in silence and contemplate our plans for 2019 and how we can make it better than 2018.

As the year draws to a close, I start to ask myself how I could do things better. What do I want from the years ahead? How can I make myself a better person? How can I contribute to make a good change on the world? All my pondering can leave me overwhelmed and unless I commit to a plan, things will not be achieved.

This time of year is a great time to make some resolutions for the new year. My resolutions are ones which will better me as a person. There’s so much I could do but I’m going to work hard to balance giving to others as well as to myself. This is for my own personal growth. By sharing this with you, I’m hoping to inspire some of you to do the same. It’s never too late to be a better you.

New Year Resolutions 2019

Give More

It’s been an amazing year of changes and achievements. Lots of exciting things have happened and the year has flown! It’s so easy to become so caught up in our own lives that we forget about those who are less fortunate.

Everyone can give something. If it isn’t monetary donations, give your time. For a couple of years now, I’ve been visiting a Burmese family who arrived here as refugees a couple of years back. They love it when I visit because they get to converse with me in English. Both husband and wife are studying and trying so hard to create a better life for themselves and their kids. Their English is the only thing which will hold them back. Such a simple thing to do yet I feel like I didn’t give them enough of my time this year. This year, I’m going to do a lot better with more regular visits.

There’s a couple of other charities close to my heart which I want to help out more. The charities are: Welcome West Wagon (assisting asylum seekers), Big Group Hug (supporting vulnerable children) and Berry Street Kids (also supporting vulnerable children).

Create More

Over the past year, it feels as though I didn’t put enough time aside to create. For a while now, I have been wanting to plan some creative photo shoots around our city or in the countryside. These shoots didn’t happen. Unless we book it into our calendar, it never eventuates. First thing I’m doing when 2019 hits is filling up the calendar with some shoots. Locations on my wish list are: Cactus Country and the sand dunes down in Wilson’s Promenade. Tasmania is also up there on the list, especially wanting to see the lavender fields and sunflower fields.

Millinery is a new passion so I’ll endeavour to create new designs on a regular basis. There’s still a lot of thinking going on about which direction I want my designs to head. It’s going to take a while.

This blog has been slightly neglected this year. More content is required! It’s not like we haven’t done much to write about, it’s a matter of writing about what we’ve done. Procrastination has been a hinderance to blogging this year. 2019 will be a better one!

Buy Nothing New

Being a blogger, milliner and a fashions on the field enthusiast (or a female in general), it’s so hard to resist the temptation to shop. Like everyone else, I love my fashion! Where does it stop? There’s been a bit of a tug-of-war inside me lately. Committing to not buying anything for a while is daunting. Maybe a compromise to not buy anything new? Op-shopping is a fabulous place to get my fashion fix! A lot of my wardrobe is sourced from op-shops or Ebay. Still, a lot is also purchased new. There’s so much that is written on the positives of recycling and buying second-had. It’s good for the soul, it’s good for the planet. Like anything, it takes some time to form a good habit. Let me start by committing to not buying anything new – all year! Will you join me for the challenge?

Travel

It’s been two years since I went overseas. My eldest has just finished high school so I had to stick around and make sure she got through it. This year is travelling time again. Somewhere new would be great as it’s what we’ve always tried to do each year. It’s such an educational thing for all of us. Travel creates experiences which we grow from and special lasting memories which are priceless.

Exercise and Eat Clean

Fortunately for me, I do like to work out on a regular basis. There’s still room to eat better and consume less alcohol. Your mind and body really appreciates all the effort! Last June was a dry month for me and I felt wonderful! More dry months throughout the year would be great.

Live Simply and Practice Gratitude Daily

There’s always something to be grateful for but sometimes we get so busy consumed by what others are doing that we forget to stop and appreciate what we have. The more we do this, the more happy we will be. There’s always going to be someone with bigger and better things than what you have. There are people who are better than you in your chosen career path. Be grateful for all you have and what you have accomplished. Hard work got you there and it’s something to be proud of every day. If there’s anything which you crave badly enough, strive to achieve it. Take time out to be in silence and breathe in some fresh air on a regular basis. It’s good for the soul.

Bring On The New Year!

So there are my top resolutions for the year. With two kids to run around after and a photography business to maintain, I think I’ve got enough on my plate. It helps to keep a journal about these achievements as I go so it looks like I’ll have lots of content for my blog this year! 2019 is going to be another year of fun and achievements. It all comes from a positive outlook on life and the belief that we can do anything we put our minds to! Most importantly, we’re going to look after our own happiness and well-being.

Happy New year to you all! Hope this year brings you a lot of joy and success.

xx
