Over the next few weeks I’m going to be a kept pretty busy with the Spring Racing Carnival. There are a lot of race days to attend and racing outfits to put together! You’re going to see a lot of racing fashion soon which will hopefully give you some inspiration for your own outfits!
What to wear for Derby Day?
This year, I’m not going to spend a fortune on new racing outfits, even though I’d love to splash out and purchase a gorgeous piece from Toni Maticevski’s new range! Looking good doesn’t require the latest fashion, it’s about wearing whatever suits you and makes you feel good. Mix and match items which already exist in your wardrobe for a fresh look.
I’m going classic this year with pieces that I already have along with a few new items which I have recently acquired. The hats and headpieces are all my own, which saves me a fortune as well as being unique.
This is one of my racing outfits which I’m saving for Derby Day at Flemington Racecourse. Derby Day fashion is traditionally black and white. I’m doing cream and white. There will be a few more added soon to help inspire you for your own outfits.
Vintage Dior feel with a lace boater hat
Normally I love dressing in bright colours but I do love the ladylike combination of silk and lace of this ensemble. It has a very vintage Dior feel, with the full, calf-length cream silk dupioni skirt which I purchased from an op shop. The delicately pretty top is from Witchery. It will be worn with a lace bra, instead of a camisole, to allow the lace to be more prominent. The gorgeous patent leather peep-toe heels with bows are a recent purchase from NineWest. The pearly flower necklace is from Forever New. I have a vintage straw boater hat which I was going to wear with this outfit originally, but thought that it needed something a little more special. I created this lace boater hat by wiring the frame together then sewing on the French lace.
Fingers crossed for some warm weather so that I get to wear this without having to cover it up with a jacket!
