The Romantic Dress
There’s nothing like a voluminous dress in a rich brocade to make you feel like a princess. Timeless fashion. It’s the type of dress you’d wear with an under-shirt out for a fancy champagne lunch with the girls or a day at the races! Wear it as it is for an evening function or a ball. My husband thinks it’s super old-fashioned but I don’t mind as I’m old fashioned at heart. This dress transports me back in time. This style is reminiscent of how my favourite actresses of the past, Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly, would dress. The 1950’s and 1960’s romantic style will always influence the fashion designers of our time and I love it! Trends come and go but classic style stays forever.
Lady-Like Dressing
As soon as you put it on, you feel so lady-like. This dress is bouffy, with a cinched-in waist. The brocade fabric in a muted blue and silver floral print is so classy and allows you to wear it day or night, depending on how you style it. The dress has pockets and flows out so beautifully when you twirl! One of the great things about this dress is that it doesn’t crease. How I dislike wearing a dress which creases easily when you sit down.
Styled For The Races in Melbourne
The photos are of how I styled this dress to the Saint Patrick’s Day Cup down at Geelong Racecourse. The white translucent undershirt made this dress more suitable for day-wear and appropriate for the warm weather. The only thing missing was the patent leather belt I wore on the day and a silver cuff bracelet. I just forgot to take them with me for the photo shoot which was done a few days after the event. There never is enough time for a photo shoot when I’m heading off to the races.
The likes of Alex Perry and Toni Maticevski produce some stunning lady-like dresses which are quite high-priced. If you keep your eyes peeled, sometimes you’ll find a piece like this Grace and Hart one for a fraction of the price. The dress is just as luxurious as any of the others and I got my hands on it the moment it hit the stores last year. Sorry, but you won’t be able to run out to purchase it.
Finishing Touches – Timeless fashion!
The hat was one of my new designs for 2019 (for my Velvet & Tonic range) and it suited the dress perfectly. The velvet handbag was one I had in my collection (from Collette Hayman bags) which has a pearl handle I added myself. My jewellery consisted of oversized pearl earrings and a silver cuff bracelet (replaced by a white bangle in the photos). My patent leather Senso shoes are one of my favourites in my collection. The super chunky, hexagonal-shaped metal heels are fabulous and prevent me from sinking into the grass on the racecourse! I loved them so much that I bought a second pair in a natural colour. Of course, a pair of stiletto pumps or heeled sandals would look great with this outfit as well.
