My Gatsby style outfit
The release of Baz Luhrmann’s version of The Great Gatsby brings about a buzz of excitement and the need to step out in 1920’s vintage finery. The Gatsby Winter Soiree at the Malvern Town Hall gave me the perfect excuse to play dress-up. The dress I’m wearing is a vintage Harry Who design. This gorgeous off-white silk, panelled, knee length dress was the perfect choice for this event and a lovely photo shoot beforehand.
20s outfits – the roaring 20s
As a last minute decision, I ran around looking for a feather cape to keep me warm but found something even better. Sportsgirl had this amazing super soft, two-toned, faux fur jacket sitting in store waiting for me! This jacket received plenty of compliments and hugs on the night. Pearls, pearls and more pearls were the perfect accessories as well as some sparkling diamantes. My little cocktail bag is from Forever New and the shoes are from Wittner. I went a little crazy at the Lovisa jewellery sale this week and bought most of my accessories and headband from there.
The hair was not as easy as putting the outfit together! It was a challenge to style my long hair into a 1920’s style. With lots of curling, hair spray and pins I eventually got there. It took me around and hour and a half to achieve this look! The lovely beaded headband completed the look nicely.
Vintage Melbourne Photolocations
We wanted some vintage backdrops and a night time feel for this photo shoot, so the city was the place to head to. The steps of Parliament House were under construction so that was unusable. We used the steps of the Old Treasury Building instead. The Windsor Hotel on Spring Street is a beautiful Victorian building and a popular spot for photography. I just love how the city lights look in the background of some of the photos.
Luckily the weather held off for us to complete our the photo shoot. For the rest of the night, it was running around in the rain until we arrived at Malvern Town Hall for the Gatsby Winter Soiree. What an amazing night that was.
