What’s on in Melbourne is my little series of curated events in Melbourne – there is so much going on in this vibrant city.
What’s on in Melbourne in September/October 2019. Here are my picks:
KAWS – Exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria
Contemporary American artist KAWS, a.k.a Brian Donnelly, is one of the most resonant artists of his generation. In an Australian first, KAWS: Companionship In The Age Of Loneliness is a comprehensive survey of 25 years of KAWS’s oeuvre, full of humour, hope and humanity, celebrating his ability to connect with broad audiences.
The NGV Federation Court will feature the newly commissioned 7m Companion bronze statue – the largest KAWS statue to this date. The exhibition features more than 100 works including iconic paintings reappropriating pop-culture figures to his more recent large-scale abstract works, and an impressive collection of his celebrated sculptural figures.
And don’t forget to visit KAWS Playtime with your kids and have some fun.
And when you feel like you can’t get enough you should venture to Uniqlo (or the NGV shop) and get your own KAWS T-shirt as part of Uniqlo’s UT series.
Enjoy KAWS Playtime for free at the NGV Melbourne or buy tickets to the KAWS exhibition here . The exhibition is in Melbourne until April 2020.
