Champagne and exquisite vintage jewellery go very well together! Rutherford Jewellers houses an extensive range of rare and vintage pieces, which we had the pleasure of viewing and trying on at their store in the Block Arcade in the city while sipping on champagne. There were diamonds and pearls, rubies and sapphires and other beautiful precious stones all in vintage settings.
Because I was the only one with a bare neckline, I was the lucky one who got to wear the divine rare boxed Edwardian diamond and pearl collar (their featured piece). How intricate is that piece with it’s central 15k yellow gold double bow, encrusted with diamonds and pearls. Definitely felt like a princess with that hanging around my neck!
The Tahitian pearls were also amazing. I do love pearls and the strand which I snapped on my friend, Michelle, would be a lovely addition to my very small collection! Diamond rings, bracelets and necklaces also made their way onto our limbs but alas, it was all returned at the end of the night – kind of like in Cinderella!
Although the lovely diamond pearl choker and Tahitian pearl necklace was way out of our budget, there are some lovely pieces at Rutherford which are very affordable and will be making it onto our wishlist for special occasions.
Iconic shopping at the Block Arcade
There are a few Rutherford stores around Melbourne, but the block arcade is just perfect for these vintage jewellers. It’s an iconic shopping arcade in Melbourne where stepping into it from the main hustle and bustle of the city seems to transport you back in time. There are beautiful stained-glass windows and vintage tiling throughout the building. Make a visit for that next special piece for yourself or your loved one and be looked after by their lovely, knowledgable staff
Thanks for the lovely night of bubbles and lavish jewellery! We’re still not convinced that our hosts were indeed the grandsons of Mr. Rutherford. They looked more like models who were hired to entertain us for the evening!
