What a gorgeous start to the Spring Racing Carnival. The sun was shining and so were the fashionable attendees of the Caulfield Guineas Day. It’s one of the few events in Melbourne where even the men preferred a different shade to Melbourne’s favourite colour, Black.
Because the day coincided with the finals at Randwick Racecourse (Sydney), the numbers were slightly low for the Fashions on the Field competition. The dress standard was kept high, with another three fashionable fillies progressing to the finals on Caulfield Cup Day. The line-up included milliner, Lisa Xu (Lady of Leisure Millinery), Melissa Buchanan (last years winner at this competition) and a new face, Elyan Shotbolt.
The unstoppable Amanda Macor was crowned the fabulously dressed winner of the Stylish Ladies 40yrs plus in a retro ensemble, including a hat of her own design. Seems like the only sash missing from her collection is the Flemington Fashions on the Field National one! Fashions on the Field regular, Jenny Beard, came runner up. She won a trip to the Hayman Islands for her efforts!
The men’s final was also held on the day. Peter Quaan, the National Fashions on the Field winner at Flemington last year, was in the top three. It was a pity that my pick for the winner in the men’s competition didn’t make the cut. He wore lilac while it seems that classic, neutral colours are always the winning combination with the judges. Two of the top three, including the winners suit, were from menswear designer – Eduardo Xavier.
The weather for the Caulfield Cup is looking promising. We are very excited about heading out to capture some more beautiful fashion and frivolity. Hope to see you out there!
