Derby Day – Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival
Did you know that the trend of wearing of black and white to Derby Day was started by an alcohol company who ran a competition for the best dressed lady in these monochrome colours? The trend was so popular that it remains with us to this day, long after the sponsorship from the alcohol company has discontinued.
There will always be a few who would rather go in colour, but if you intend to enter the Myer Fashions on the Field competition, it’s best to stick to tradition. The judges have not chosen a colourful outfit as the winner on this day for a very long time, if ever!
Myer Fashions on the Field winner on Derby Day – Ashleigh Albanese
How tough is it to put together an outfit which stands out on the day! For Ashleigh Albanese, keeping it vintage was the key. Ashleigh won best dressed on the day in a vintage, full skirt dress topped off with a mesh boater hat. Her red lipstick gave a splash of colour to the look. Even though she came runner up in the Victorian final of the Fashions on the Field to Chloe Moo (Chloe won the National title), Ashleigh’s look was super classy.
There were a couple of stand-outs in the birdcage, with Jennifer Hawkins taking out the sexiest outfit of the day! She wore a very figure-hugging, leather cut-out Toni Maticevski custom made number. Lindi Klim’s custom made tulle dress, also from Toni Maticevski was also a winner (will post it soon).
