French chic

Georgia caught our eye in her very chic French look as she hurried in to sign up for the Fashions on the Field competition on Oaks Day. She wore a very eye-catching feminine floral embellished skirt and top combination topped with a simple pink boater hat. One of the last to sign up, she went on to become runner-up in the Oaks Day Fashions on the Field at the Spring Racing Carnival at Flemington.

We asked Georgia about her look and her involvement with the Fashions on the Field competitions in Australia:

“My look was originally inspired by Miraslava Duma. Last year she put a look together for fashion week that incorporated a collared shirt and strapless black bust and I  fell in love!  I’m a huge fan of her style and being that she quite petite it’s always exciting to see the way she works her size around fashion.

I really wanted to wear pastel pink because for it’s made a real statement this season. It’s beautiful and feminine and that’s what the races and oaks  day is all about.  I started planning about two months ago. A lot of the couture collections for spring had 3D flower embellishments. I already owned the skirt but all the flower detail in the pink, I Individually cut and hand sewed on. Probably took the best part of twenty hours to complete! At the last minute, I even roped a girlfriend in to help. Haha!

I’m a millinery student so my pink boater has been part of an assessment piece for this semester. It’s a really fun piece, very French and very chic. It was a very different piece to what I normally wear and a challenge to make, which was really fun.

With racewear, I really enjoy the creative process and try to make as much of my own stuff as possible. My grandmother taught me how to sew. Studying millinery has been a dream come true. Millinery is my true passion and I feel very lucky to have racing fashion as a creative outlet.

I started competing in the Fashions on the Field competitions in 2013 and fell in love with everything about it. The people I have met, the enjoyment I get from creating my own pieces. It’s been an incredible journey so far.

This year was my first year at Flemington. It completely exceeded my expectations. I had the most incredible three days and to take home a sash was a complete thrill. I was happy to make the preliminary finals and the next thing I know, I’m standing there in the top two! I had tears in my eyes. It’s still a blur”.

Georgia has already won some Fashions on the Field competition sashes in the short time she has been entering.
