Derby Day is fast approaching and it’s the perfect occasion to put on the monochromes. It is such a challenge to create some interest with the traditional colours of black and white but the fashionistas at the races impress with monochromes on Derby Day. It’s always a nice surprise to see how some inject their own personality into traditional outfits to create something a little more modern. Take last year’s winner for example. In a competition which is dominated by colour, Brodie Worrell won the National Fashions on the Field competition in a white dress with black accessories. Her dress was a very classic style, but the dress fabric and hat modernised her look.
Black and white doesn’t have to be boring!
Pick luxurious pieces made of silk and lace. Choose interesting fabrics with textures and cut-outs. Mix different textures together for a polished, lady-like, Minimal Luxe look that will see you dressed well for the Melbourne Cup Carnival and many more occasions!
The aim is to keep lines and colours simple, yet achieving a look that is luxurious. Lace is so huge this season, as are mesh inserts and laser cut detailing. Draping fabrics, such as Lyocell, are so feminine and move as you do. Minimal but luxurious – minimal luxe !
