Melbourne Spring Racing Fashion 2015
For my very first Melbourne Cup (many years ago) I chose a backless white midi dress with a simple black hat. My first stop was the Champagne Bar in the members enclosure, where I stayed all day! My partner back then was a mad punter, so he left me there in the Champagne Bar and went off to do his thing. I had so much fun, sipping on champagne and chatting to strangers as I didn’t know a single soul in that place. Melbournians were super friendly, especially on such a festive event. I had no idea about betting on the races and the only race I saw was on the television screen within the bar enclosure. It was so enjoyable that I returned, year after year.
To this day, I’m still not keen on placing bets at the races or even watching a race. I’m there for the fashion and the fun. As a photographer, it’s a dream to photograph as everyone is so well groomed and looking their finest. It’s amazing to see the amounts of money which is poured into an outfit. It’s an amazing amount of money which is poured into the entire event! The whole Spring Racing Carnival is sheer extravagance, which leaves everyone attending in awe.
What to wear to the Melbourne races?
For some, the cost of joining in such frivolities may be daunting. It doesn’t need to be. You’d be surprised at how little you have to spend to get this entire outfit! I’m one for a good bargain, but it still has to look the part. At Boohoo, you’ll be able to throw together complete outfits without breaking the bank. My Derby Day look (traditionally black and white) of dress, shoes, handbag and some makeup cost a total of $120. It’s style on a budget which everyone can afford. They’ve got loads of accessories and makeup to finish off any look which you’re after. At this price, you’ll be able to afford a different look for each day!
We shot this outfit while on holiday in Munich, Germany. There is so much beautiful architecture everywhere you turn. This simple, yet sexy shirt-dress with splits everywhere is so chic and easy to wear. The sexy lace-up heels and studded black clutch ensures that heads will turn as you strut around the racecourse, or anywhere else you choose to wear this outfit! Unfortunately I didn’t have enough time to organise a headpiece to finish this outfit. I’d most likely wear it with a floppy black or white straw hat, a fedora. There’s so many options out their for headwear and it doesn’t need to be extravagant to fit in. Crowns are a huge rage for this season, I may have to don one myself!
Hopefully we’ll see a lot of you out there at the racecourse. Do come and say ‘hi’. Maybe you’ll catch our eye and end up on our racing style pages!
