Los Patios in Alcudia, Mallorca, Spain - one of the best restaurants there - hidden behind the tourist area - secret tip

Los Patos – Alcudia, Mallorca

So we begin at the end. It’s the last night of our wonderful stay in beautiful Mallorca, Spain. We were recommended this restaurant by one of the lovely staff at our hotel. Surely they would know where to experience great, authentic Mallorcan food? We’ve had some great food and some pretty average food during our stay. Tripadvisor isn’t always so reliable with some restaurants as everyone’s taste is so different and there are too many restaurants to choose from!

Restaurant Adventures with TripAdvisor in Alcudia, Mallorca, Spain

Los Patos served us the best Mallorcan food which we had during our restaurant adventures. This rustic gem of a place would only be found if you asked the locals as it’s ranked #52 on TripAdvisor! Previous diners have rated it 4 out of 5 points, which is on the mark, but we didn’t get to experience enough different restaurants to say whether it should have ranked higher (but we would say it’s underrated).

Being from Melbourne, we’re very spoilt with choice and fresh produce so it’s hard to find the same when travelling. It’s also because we are accustomed to the way things are done in our part of the world, so we’re constantly comparing food to how it’s done back at home. In saying that, there have been places which have blown us away with their culinary delights which are not matched anywhere else. For example, the best sushi we experienced was in Dresden, German. A tiny foodcourt sushi bar blew us away with their freshly made, perfect tasting sushi. Berlin has the best Pad Thai ever! We’ll let you in on the secret place when we get around to the Berlin Blog post.

Spanish Food in Alcudia, Mallorca – An insider tip

Back to Los Patos. Los Patos is Spanish for ‘The Ducks”. It’s located slightly inland in Port D’Alcudia. The charming, typically Spanish, frontage is as welcoming as it’s owner. Gabriel is the third generation of this local favourite. The decor is homely, utilising farm vegetables and vintage tools for decor. There are various dining rooms within the restaurant, which feels as though it could have been a private residence. We choose a table in the lovely outside terrace. On a warmer night within the high season, the restaurant is sure to be bustling with lots of patrons who are there to enjoy the Mallorcan cuisine or a drink at the terrace bar. It’s wonderful to see such an old spanish building with lots of atmosphere as there are too many tourist restaurants in the main area – it’s an easy walk to Los Patos or take a taxi or rental car.

Both the fish dishes and our Paella were cooked beautifully and tasted amazing. The Tiramisu was one of the best we’ve had. The staff were super friendly and attentive. We wished that we were there for a few mores nights so that we could come back to enjoy more of what they had to offer. If you are fortunate enough to find yourselves in the beautiful Mallorca, head on down to Los Patos for a meal or two. You won’t be disappointed.

Of course we also have wonderful Spanish Restaurants in Melbourne – try Movida for a taste of wonderful tapas and spanish cuisine … (but it’s hard to beat the atmosphere of Los Patos – you will need to travel to spain.).
