Coffee was not the only beverage on offer in this ultra hip and vibrant venue. Even though Lavazza’s latest offering (the Gran Riserva espresso) was flowing out of the gold Elektran coffee machine, guests were happily sipping French Champagne and various cocktails. The food consisted of a large leg of prosciutto which was continually being sliced along with so many tasty morsels cooked up by Italian chefs.
The Lavazza Marquee was all class this year with it’s interior being in gold with a black and white floor. Over 230 glasses were suspended from the ceiling in the form of chandeliers from Plumm Glassware. On the walls were black and white portraits of wild horses by renouned Canadian photographer, Roberto Dutesco, who was present at the Lavazza Marquee on Oaks Day.
To one side of the Lavazza Marquee was a stage where guests enjoyed live entertainment from various artists. DJs were given a booth above the bustling bar where they were pumping out tunes from and were able to view the entire marquee.
Richie Sambora, from Bon Jovi, was their star guest of Oaks day. (The other days saw models Poppy Delevingne and Lara Bingle popping in as well as Scary Spice – Mel B.)
The Lavazza Marquee was definitely one of the hottest spots to be during the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival in 2013. Around 3pm there was a queue to enter with well known Australian faces waiting their turn to join the party. Tough luck if you had to go to the bathroom at that time as I did notice some guests having to queue up to re-enter after their toilet break!
