Want to celebrate Christmas in July? Rug up and head to Sovereign Hill to enjoy a fabulous light show and some lovely Christmas treats which are on offer there now until the 12th of July. The locals will get you into the Christmas spirit with some carols in the main street and the kids will enjoy the snow blowing down onto them from the rooftops. Don’t worry it’s not real snow … but it’s pretty close and lots of it!
If you missed or enjoyed the light show at Melbourne’s ‘White Night’, you’ll get to experience it here. A huge christmas tree, traditional carols and you might even spot St Nicholas in this winter wonderland. The beautifully decorated shops on Main Street sell you everything you need for your own christmas celebration at home.
Winter Wonderlights – Snow in July
There’s so much to explore at Sovereign Hill – the gold museum, gold mine tours, gold pouring & much more. The entry is not cheap and I suggest to spend the whole day there to make the most out of it. Family tickets are available.
The fairy lights start twinkling at twilight and the light show and fun starts when it gets dark (5:45pm to 7pm). There’s plenty of food, delicious treats and hot beverages available for purchase, to keep you warm in their stalls. Maybe even book a Christmas dinner at one of the restaurants there.
A Melbourne day trip
Sovereign Hill is not far from Melbourne in Ballarat – easy to do in a day trip. Perfect for a school holiday event – the kids love the fake snow and the lights.
