2013 – The first year for Schweppes in the Birdcage at the Melbourne Cup
Schweppes teamed up with Broadsheet and created a bar inspired by the Melbourne lanewys. The bar (only open for 4 days) felt like a permanent Melbourne laneway bar or restaurant – with yummy food and amazing cocktails. Hanging light bulbs, handmade wooden timber furniture and industrial style fittings added to the atmosphere.
Bar Schweppes by Broadsheet
Did I mention cocktails … yes … !!! Definitely the some of the best ones you could get at the Melbourne Cup (mhh … ok … my favourite was still at Myers … ). Each of the cocktails is finished with a Schweppes mixer. Bar Schweppes featured some of Melbourne’s best bartenders. Schweppes hired the bartenders from popular bars such as the Black Pearl (signature cocktail: Up and At ‘Em) , The Beaufort (signature cocktail: Venezuelan Thunder), Woods of Windsor, Bar Ampere (signature cocktail:Winner Winner) or Seamstress (signature cocktail: Pimms Rangoon). So no wonder that these cocktails were among the best.
Flemington Fling – Who knows the recipe?
Unfortunatley I didn’t try the Schweppes Flemington Fling – so let me know when you know the recipe.
Have a look at some of our snaps and enjoy the atmosphere at Bar Schweppes. The Schweppes / Broadsheet collaboration was definitely a success. Hope to see Bar Schweppes again 2014 at the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.
