This has got to be the best place for the most spectacular view over Melbourne. The Eureka Skydeck! It’s 285 metres above ground and the floor-to-ceiling windows allow you 360 degree, unobstructed view of the most liveable city in the world.
Whether you live in Melbourne or are just visiting, don’t miss out on a visit to the highest building in the Southern Hemisphere (at least at the moment). The Eureka tower also houses the fastest elevator in the Southern Hemisphere, travelling up to the Sky Deck in an impressive 38 seconds!
Melbourne from above
For those who aren’t scared of heights, head out onto The Edge at the Skydeck. It’s a glass cube which suspends you over Melbourne’s streets. The walls, ceiling and floors are all made of glass which allows to look straight down below. Thank goodness for the metal bars which held the glass together – keeping my feet on them allowed me to keep my nerves intact! The little one showed no signs of vertigo and happily spread himself all over the floor, staring straight down. He was very disappointed that the cube wasn’t a ride which went up and down!
The Eureka Sky Deck is most impressive on a clear day but will entertain the family on any day. When the weather is nice, you might want to venture out onto the terrace of the Sky Deck. Don’t worry, there’s plenty of protective fencing to prevent you from falling out! It’s like looking down onto Melbourne from a very high balcony! Only a hot air balloon ride could top this.
A Melbourne adventure at day or night
Take the kids, your visitors from overseas or interstate, a date or just head there yourself for some awesome views of Melbourne. You can get a double pass to experience the view in daytime and nighttime … or just come before sunset and say a bit longer.
Afterwards, take a stroll along bustling Southbank and have some coffee or a bite to eat at the many fabulous restaurants and cafes down there. There are some great views of Melbourne from down below as well.
